EEEEE AHHHH
la_victorienne! I got the books! THANK YOU SO MUCH! She didn't just rec me books, she SENT them to me! The Wives of Henry Oades and All We Ever Wanted Was Everything. ILU TO BITS AND PIECES THANK YOUUU! ♥
SO SO SO the kitty came around this evening to hang out in our garage and I had to take a video.
I KNOW I know my stupid words and noises. Just read the video description okay?
This past Thursday I FINALLY got a call from an actual place where I had submitted my resume. A law office about 7 minutes away from me wanted to schedule an appointment with me this Wednesday! CARTWHEEL! I'm mostly excited because it'll look really good on my resume and if I get it, I'll probably be making a lot more money than I was at Starbucks. I am nervous about the fact that it's a full time job, though. I've never actually held a full time, 40 hour a week every week job, so.
I'm also of course SUPER nervous about the interview so, uh, pointers? Tips? Things I should ask/things I SHOULDN'T ask? This is so silly, but I'm kinda concerned about um... taking time off. I'll (hopefully) be going out of state at the end of March and sometime in May, but... how do I ask about this? SHOULD I even ask about it? Just as like, a passing question, "Oh, I was just wondering about how taking time off works here, I might be going somewhere during these times"? I don't knoooow. Ughhh I hope it goes okay and I like the people and the work doesn't suck, etc etc. I also put an application in at a Starbucks in this cutesy downtown area and I'm going to call the manager there tomorrow, just in case the law office doesn't pan out.
Also, does anyone have Hearing Damage by Thom Yorke? It's on the freaking Twilight soundtrack but... THOM YORKE, OKAY.

Date: 2010-01-18 03:10 am (UTC)don't ramble and answer questions directly and have a point to it.
have a sense of humor but don't be a clown.
Wear conservative clothes, color and not too much jewelry. no cleavage or above the knee mini
hope this helps!
Good Luck! now if you get the job you should tell the about needing time off asap also during your interview you might want to ask hypothetically, their policy on time off during the grace period or if you are a direct hire right away and so...on my last job I had to cancel plans to go to the ST Creation Con in Vegas even though I did let them know about it beforehand, it was a choice of a job vs. no job.

I was definitely leaning toward doing both of those things! And yeah, job vs no job just because I can't take a vacation? No contest there.

Date: 2010-01-18 05:12 am (UTC)I'd say don't mention the "time off" during the interview unless they ask you specifically. Then mention that it's just a few days.
Also, do as they ask and follow directions specifically. Like if they tell you to take a seat, hang up your coat, and make yourself comfortable: do it. They look for visual cues and people who keep on standing there without taking off their coats, etc. won't get points.
Oh and for interview clothes, conservative but something you're comfortable with. I've always worn black but that's just 'cause it's my colour. Experiment with the looks, etc. the day before the interview to see if everything works.
Not to scare you with this: It's uber-rare but I've heard of interviewers sending out people to check the applicant's car/transport vehicle and take note the cleanliness, condition, etc. If you're coming there in a car or other transport craft, clean/tidy it before the interview. The more common: always be nice to the office workers (not that I doubt you will). At my work and other places, we take notes if applicants were friendly to us at the front desks or not. Those who were rude I assume get docked points.

Date: 2010-01-18 06:54 am (UTC)I can't really give advice other than linking to an article. I just read this article recently on the interviewing in a job thing. Seemed spiffy. GOOD LUCK, LOVE.
