So, okay, HELP.

As I've told everyone 8 million times, I'm a Floridian. I've seen snow a grand total of 3 times my entire life. I have no idea how to dress for the cold. And seeing as how I'll be going to Europe in a couple months where it'll definitely be colder than I'm used to (and then moving to Salt Lake Cityyyy), I should probably remedy that.

So I'm wondering. Is this a good cold weather coat? Cold weather meaning, 45 to 25 degrees, plus a sometimes-significant wind chill? I'll be of course bringing along a fleece coat, long sleeves, and (at my parents' insistence) silk long underwear. And I'll definitely be outside cavorting around Germany and the Netherlands more than I will be inside, so.

And... boots? How about these boots? Something warmer? More waterproof? ARE THEY NOT FASHIONABLE ENOUGH?? Alfjdalsjdslkdj. Any suggestions or recommendations would be SUPER helpful.

Today's my Oma's 93rd birthday. Gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag, Oma. Dutch clan represent.

Vampire Dean thanks you for your time.

Haha! That's good to know. I never even THOUGHT about the idea of layering until a year or two ago. Yeah, I figure if not that jacket, at least something from Land's End, as they're pretty substantial and will probably last quite a while. But boots! BOOOOTS. I'm becoming slightly obsessed with boots, even though I would probably only be able to wear them two months out of the year, here!

HMMM. Well. The coat itself doesn't look like quite enough to keep you warm on its own because there really isn't much of a lining, but it looks ideal for allowing layering underneath, so that's great. Add in a good scarf and some gloves and you'll be cozy :D I don't know how much rain you'll be expecting, but it should be fine for that as well. I usually get by fine in the winter with a peacoat, two layers underneath (Something like a short sleeve t-shirt or camisole under a shrug/sweater of some description. I pretty much LIVE in button up cardigans and merino wool pullover sweaters during the fall/winter), a scarf, and gloves when it gets particularly nippy. And my trusty umbrella of course! (LOL VANCOUVER).

The boots look perfect too. Again, I don't know how much rain you're expecting. One of my old roommates had boots very similar to those and she did fine in the rain, though, so I dunno!

I was thinking that myself (me: IT'S NOT A HUGE FLUFFY COAT, I WILL DIE; parents: lol layering, look it up); layering might be better because I don't want to have a huge, thick coat take up so much space in my suitcase, etc. And YAY gloves and scarf and a TOQUE! (I learned that word not too long ago, TOOOOOQUE!)

That's my only concern with the boots, how waterproof they are. It says water-resistant suede, but I thought those two things were mutually exclusive, haha.

I don't really have any good advice re: coat & boots, as I am pretty terrible at dressing appropriately and almost always choose fashion over function. That being said, in my opinion both look like good options! The boots especially are super cute but also look plenty warm! I used to have a very similar-looking pair, and they served me well during a snowstorm once.

Mainly I just wanted to post ashfjkhfjkdhkjfhajgdsah re: vamp!Dean. UMMM.

Hee! I have to admit, I do sort of the same. Some clothing pieces are just too PRETTY to pass up. And hooray, plus one for the boots! I just didn't want to go tromping around Europe in galoshes or something, haha.

UNGHHHH LAUREN HE'S SO PRETTYYYYY and tormented and angsty and EVERYTHING I LOVE. ♥

I think that's definitely a good idea, even if the outer, lighter jacket would only be used as a windbreaker/rainjacket. And hmmm, the boots. I've been told it shouldn't be too rainy or snowy while I'm there, but I'd rather be overly cautious and look for something else, maybe. And omg A PRETEND NEW YORKER IS BETTER THAN NUTHIN. <3

The jacket is probably fine if you're not going much below freezing and you've got layers on underneath. If you want something really cold weather though, I'd go for a down jacket, or at least something with a heartier lining underneath the shell. But I come from a snow background! I like things that will keep you warm when it's less than zero degrees.

And I think the boots are probably fine with a good pair of socks! As long as you're not walking through puddles or tromping through snowbanks (which you probably won't do a whole lot of in Europe) you should be peachy.

(Also, your parents are smaaart, long underwear can SAVE YOUR LIFE.)

HMMmm, yeah, that's the thing. I think it should be above freezing for most of the time I'm out and about, except in the north part of the Netherlands where I think it'll be a LOT cooler, plus a wonderful wind chill coming off the water. But I'd hate to be too warm in a really poofy jacket! I think I'll keep this one in mind, but still look around.

Yay sock! Eight pairs of socks! Haha. And OH yes, my parents swear by long underwear ever since they went tromping through the mountains of Utah during February in -15 degree weather. I don't think it'll be THAT bad, but they'll be nice to have. :D

Also hiii! I hope you're doing okay. ILU. <3

the boots are super-cute but i might advise against them given that part of them are suede -- even with waterproofing it's easy to ruin. the key to being warm is being water-proof and also as many layers as you can fit. layers layers layers, for real.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering! When I saw that I thought, uh, no, suede will be all gross if it gets wet! And then it says it's water resistant? Even though it apparently won't be too snowy/rainy while I'm there, I don't know if I want to gamble with only semi-waterproof boots. And layers! Oh yes, layers. My poor suitcase, hee.

(Also, hiii! I haven't seen you around in a while, hope you're doing well! <3)

Sounds good to me! The layering, not sweating to death, I mean. My suitcase might not enjoy it, but I think that's the way I'm gonna go. :D

Hmmm, I'm not sure about the coat, if you are going to layer you should be okay according to their website. For winter I prefer a pea coat but for your situation, I would go for something like this (although you will want something probably more water proof) or one of the 3-in-1 coats because you can pull those apart if you want a lighter jacket. (However, those are not cheap!) The boots look great, I wish I had boots like that.

I hope this helps.

Also my Land's End down vest IS MY FAVORITE THING. Seriously, if you move to Salt Lake City, invest in one to wear under your coat for super cold days and other days when you can wear just a sweatshirt but want to keep your torso warm. I love that thing. I think I might order another!

Ohh, I do like that one too a lot. It looks thin enough to not be a hassle carrying it around, but has a fleece lining. I'm definitely gonna keep that one in mind as well. Omg I wish I had the money to buy every kind of boot EVER, they're kind of my new obsession. SIGH.

Haha! I was actually discussing with my family the other day just how the hell vests are useful. They just cover your chest! Your arms will still be cold! But then my mom was like, EL OH EL, no, and listed all the reasons you just did, haha. COLD WEATHER OUTFITS, HOW DO THEY WORK.

Hm, as for the coat, it doesn't look all too warm to me from the pics, but if the description says so . . . You usually don't have below -10 °C over here, so it should do.

The boots . . . More waterproof would probably be good.

Haha, right? I looked at that coat and thought to myself that it DEFINITELY wouldn't be warm enough, but the site says otherwise! I'll look around some more, but I'll keep it in mind, just in case.

Hmm, kind of what I was thinking. Thanks for the input! :D

I'd say the coat desertgoddess posted is the better option - and layers, of course. You should definitely have a hat, a scarf, and gloves - they make such a big difference. March shouldn't be so terrible though, just be glad you're not coming in December/January. And yeah, waterproof-ed boots are a good idea.

But of course, I should have just asked you! Hehe. Yeah, I'd feel a little more relief to get something like that, I think, just a little bit thicker for just in casey. And okay, hmm, definitely a yes on the waterproof boots? Just means more shoe shopping for me, oh no, the horror! ;D

I know I'm only from Mempis but we are not so far south that we don't get some cold winters. I think honestly it's be better if you got something with a hood and more lining unless you don't mind layering lots. The water resistant fabric is a must but I have a big poofy jacket that has a hood and triple lining and it keeps me as warm as can be. I think your best bet is to go local, not online so you can feel it before you buy it. It's the only way you'd know for sure if it's right.

Ok editing oops but yeah you'll want waterproof boots. You do NOT want to have cold wet feet in freezing temperatures. I'm not a stickler for fashion so I wear galoshes with double pairs of soccer socks in the snow weather.

Basically. Waterproof and thick fabrics that are also water proof or resistant is what you're looking for with snow. Because, again, you want to be dry at all times when you're in the snow. A hat, waterproof gloves, a thick scarf...have everything covered except maybe a slit for your eyes. BECAUSE NOSES GET COLD TOO. I am such a fan of wrapping my scarf all the way around my head and it covering my nose.

Yeah, I think I'm definitely leaning towards something a bit thicker, but still going with lots of layers. And OH, if I only did not live in Florida, otherwise I would go local and search some stores. We really don't get a big coat selection down here. :\

Hmm, okay. I was thinking about galoshes, but I'd also like something... not for hiking, necessarily, but lots of walking and going up hills and stuff. I'll have to see if I can find a good combination of the two. I can't WAIT to bring my comfy scarf and wear it everywhere, heeee! Thanks for your help, babe! <3
