FFS, Starbucks.

If I wanted to pushpushpush selling something to a customer, and getting commission for it, I'd be in sales. But I don't, so I'm not. Me and a coworker asked nearly every freaking person who came into the store, and no, 99% did not want to buy VIA, the instant coffee. Oh, I'm sorry, ready brew. Can't say instant coffee. People get the wrong ideas. (But the kicker is, it tastes only 50% less shittier than regular instant coffee.)

I was on bar, making drinks, and this lady says, "Your VIA really really doesn't taste good." "Uh, okay," I say. "No really. It's not going to sell." Thanks asshole. I already know that. Please don't make my job harder, because that is my job. It's all about numbers. EVERYTHING is about numbers now. If our store doesn't sell x-number of packets of VIA, someone is, quite literally, being fired. Hey, it's not my fault your products aren't selling. And I know our regulars just loooove over-bearing baristas shoving this stuff in their faces. This is what I have to deal with tomorrow morning. Being with my manager and hearing her push this shit like it's brownies laced with the Good Stuff.

Plus, our new aprons are the same orange as Home Depot. So. Funtimes all around.

My care-level for schoolwork is, um. Rapidly descending into nonexistent. I want to feel bad about this, I do, but I'm too sick of it to be able to. I just want to be done. I just want to be out of here. It's like I've had this goal that I've been looking forward to for so long and I just can't seem to reach it. I know, two months. 70 days. But it honestly feels like it's never going to end.

...Hey! Tomorrow is Thursday. OhGod. I needed Thursdays back in my life. Like. A lot. I am really really REALLY excited. And then Saturday my parents are coming to visit and we're totally going to Buca di Beppo (aka holy crap never ever EVER going to Olive Garden again). And then next Thursday is DENVER! And the week after that I'm going home for my sister's birthday! So. Things. Fun things. Must concentrate on fun things.

Also, may I randomly add that there is this guy who comes into Starbucks who looks like a DEAD RINGER for Lucifer. I was looking down and was like, "Hey, what can I get-UH." But, he's German. And drinks a grande caramel macchiato. In case, you know, you ever need to appease Satan with caffeine, that's your best bet.

Oh, man, I can't believe they're making you push it so hard :( I wonder if the same is true here in Canada? I'll have to see, the next time I go in.

It's really really frustrating. :( Hmm, not sure about Canada. [livejournal.com profile] karmicunderpath is my fellow Starbuckian from the Great North, so I'll have to ask her!

"Lucifer" sounds yummy. That sounds so wrong.

That's really bad they're making all the stores push this product so hard. :/

He was actually QUITE ATTRACTIVE. In a sullen-looking way, HAHA.

It's really awful. I have the Starbucks gossip feed pop up on my twitter and reading some of the comments on it is indicating that I'm DEFINITELY not alone. :(

So are they forcing that on you guys up north too? UGH that SUCKS. I thought Canada would be more ~*lenient*~ on this kind of stuff but apparently Starbucks has their iron fists on EVERYTHING.

Yeah, it's completely retarded. At least they try to give us incentives though...if we sell a certain amount per week for a month we get a $500 party for the store.

Ohh, yeah, I think I remember seeing a note or something about that in the back. Hey, how about you give ME $500 for making a fool of myself on every shift, yeah?

Man, how can they do that to you guys? Ugh. Must be frustrating, but hang in there! For both Starbucks and school.

LOL, I'll try to remember that.

I don't knooowww waaaah. I thought I was working at Starbucks to MAKE DRINKS and help customers with coffee-related questions, but no, I'm apparently a sales-person too. Hey guys, business 101: if you make a really good product, IT'S GOING TO SELL ITSELF.

Hee! Have those gift cards handy! ;D

ugh, suggest-selling, I haaate it. I hated doing it, and I hate when it's done to me. When will corporate bigwigs realize the public does not like it? ugh. I'm sorry bb. :(

It's just, it's so AWKWARD for everyone involved! How is this supposed to be a ~welcoming atmosphere~ when we're hounding people to death? I'm so freaking close to writing an angry letter to SOMEONE higher up when I leave the company. Not that it probably won't get tossed immediately in the garbage, but hey, it'll make me feel better.

Jeez! That sounds really hard! Forcing that on you!

*hugs* Hang in there-hope it gets better soon!

I understand where they're coming from, wanting to sell stuff when the economy is so bad, but there really is a better way to go about it. I hope that the loss of customers will at least enlighten them at SOME point. :\

Thanks babe! <3333

Up-selling was the final nail in my coffee coffin.

When they started making a schedule of which pastries were were supposed to push on which days and with which drinks, I gave notice.

Orange aprons, however, would have made me walk out.

I AM SO SORRY.

PS- Buca Di Beppo was suuuuuper tasty, but my ADD couldn't handle the decor. @_@ WOWZERS!

At my job we have a different "make" books every couple of weeks, which means we have to push that book and sell a certain amount of them. But they always pick the most ridiculous and stupid books that NOBODY wants to read. They even discount them, and people still don't buy them. And we also have to get Borders Rewards sign ups and Book Drive books and a ton of other random things to pester the customers with. It's just like, don't they know that people don't like being pestered when they go shopping? It makes them not want to comeback, ohmygoshduh! I swear, they should have the everyday employees run the company, and I'm sure we'd do it ten times better.

I love Mark Pellegrino and to have a guy that looked like him and is German, I probably would have flirted with him. O.O;; Shame on me.
