I has a question.

I'm looking in to getting a new camera for Christmas (serious HINTHINTage to the parents, yes), and I'm a bit stuck as what to get. Thusfar I've had a Canon A520 4.0 megapixels with 4x zoom. I have had NUMEROUS problems with it, and the preceding model, the 3.2 megapixel, or whatever. So far we've sent this camera back to Canon TWICE because the lens froze and was completely stuck while open. Granted, one of the times my parents were taking pictures with it in -18 degree weather, but, uh, still. I've heard Canon is one of the best on the market, and I'm very sadly disappointed. Could be just the model.

Anyway. What I'm looking in to getting is something with a greater zoom lens then megapixels. 8.0 megapixels is fantastic, but not when you have a 3x zoom lens, as learned when you go to something like Comic Con and all your pictures turn out BLURRY because your camera does not have a good zoom. So I want to get something like this, though not necessarily that brand, but definitely in that (used) price range, or around $200-$250. And I'd actually like to KEEP this camera for a while, thanks, instead of replacing nearly every year. So yes, any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Watched commentaries for 2x20 and 2x21, and can I just say, KRIPKEEEEEE. He made me laugh SO HARD omg. And Sera with her "I had fun writing that Sam-almost-raping-Jo scene, LULZ," oh man. Too fantastic. And everyone works SO HARD omg as was attested again and again. YAY SHOW I LOVE YOU.

We're looking to get a new camera too because our is dedz. I'm looking at the Sony Cyber-Shot something or other, but I don't know if Stephan's willing to pay what it costs.

I mean, 4MP is really low. I just got this camera but in the leica version. it has a very low zoom, which was something i was willing to sacrifice for true manual controls; but. yeah. okay, I don't know where i was going with that. I bought my BF a casio, but mostly because i know that casios are very sturdy cameras so he wouldn't break it. again, i didn't really look at the zoom lens since i don't generally photograph with zoom. it also depends how big you want a camera to be? my camera was absolutely the biggest i would get, but it looks like you don't mind a larger camera. of course, i have an old konica minolta thats a little bigger and even access to DSLRs if i wanted to, so, choosing a small camera isn't completely limiting to me.
dpreview has the best reviews, you should check out their top cameras here and try cnet as well.

you should be looking for at least 7MP and absolutely no lower than 6MP; at least that's what I would suggest. Even my camera from 3 years ago is 7MP.

Oh DEFINITELY! Heh, I forgot to mention that in my post. I definitely do want something with a loooot beter MP than 4. Also, I don't mind big cameras... I mean, somehow I end up using the zoom a lot whenever I'm taking pictures, so I'd be willing to sacrifice size for zoom. And thanks for the sites with the reviews! I'll definitely check them out. :D

I have a Samsung, and while it is old and a little low on the MP, I totally love it. I think I will probably stick by Samsung all my life.

Wow. Maybe it's just the camera. I personally own three Canon digitals including the Rebel XT and I love them!!

For Christmas, I bought my mother the SD600 and she loves it. The zoom works well for her and she's been a picture taking fool since then.

Yeah, I know! Everyone is usually so pleased with their Canons, and I've been told by nearly every electronic store that Canon is what to go with, but, like I said, I've been having nothing but trouble. I'm thinkin' it might just be the model.

Cool! I'll check that one out, thanks!

Well, you saw my camera (the more-advanced baby brother to yours) and while I haven't had it very long, I've also had some issues with the shutter not opening up like it should all the time. *shrugs* I don't know enough about cameras to make recommendations, though.

Oh, hey, you know that convo we had the other night about the fandom and wincest and things like that? If you haven't already, you should check out [livejournal.com profile] slashless_super, its a community for fanart and fic that is completely slash and wincest free. I thought you might like to look at it, anyway.

Aw, really? 'Cause yeah, that's the problem with mine, as you saw! Hmm. Lots of research it is, then, heh.

Ooh, neat! I'll definitely have to check out that community. Pleased to see there are people who think the same way. :D

That's so weird about your Canon. I had the A620 and now the A640 and it's flawless. Maybe your camera just sucked? Like, it was defective. I take mine into mosh pits at concerts, drop it, use it constantly...no matter where I am with lighting and stuff, I can get a good picture if I use the right function.

Canons are my favorite. I'll never buy another brand. I'd go with a Kodak. They have a bunch of models and they're a company that expressly makes cameras only. I won't buy from a company that makes other things. Canon and Kodak specialize in good cameras. I'm sure you if you looked at some Kodaks you could find one in your price range with the features you want since you're anti-Canon lol.

Yeah, I have no idea, heh. Everyone's said that Canon makes such great cameras. I've had two of them so far that's had this problem. Maybe if I go with a completely different model. Aw, I'm not anti-Canon! I've just been, you know, disappointed. But I'll definitely look into Kodaks too, thanks!
