Sep. 12th, 2010 01:02 amI'll just cut to the chase and say by the last couple pages I was a sobbing mess.
I held in pretty good though, for a while. But I would turn the page and go, my God, how can this get more depressing. So good, though. So so so good. I'm not just emotionally attached, though, I'm emotionally tethered, so I could be a bit biased.
The steady declination of Katniss's mental health killed me. I can't even imagine. When her team was in the Capitol and starting dying one by one.... Those freaking pods, man, freaked me the hell out. Someone's SKIN melting off, YEAH SURE. AUUGHH. And FINNICK. NOOOO. And then I almost had a heart attack when Katniss and Gale got separated and he got taken by the Peacekeepers, AND THEN. And then Prim, Prim died and I could not even. The whole reason for Katniss being in the games and having all this happen, and she dies. And then Buttercup comes back and I completely lost it.
I somehow had an inkling that Katniss would try to off President Coin, and I was glad she did. Snow was CREEPY. And Gale, oh my gosssh. I like how the ~love triangle~ was not at ALL the first (or second or third) concern in the story. Still, it really really broke my heart a little that Katniss pretty much let him go without even hinting at forgiveness. Given the situation it was understandable, but still. They grew up together and he loved her and it just SO SAD. AUUGH.
And Peeta. I really really love Peeta. I loved the "real or not real" game. I love how slowly but surely he overcame the torture and that he and Katniss ended up holding each other up because of how damaged they both were. I love that he planted primrose bushes in front of their house for Prim. I'm perfectly content that they ended up together, though I still wish so much that there was some reconciliation with Gale. :(
So yeah. Enthralled depression. Fortunately I watch this show called Supernatural, so I'm pretty good at handling it.
So are they for sure going ahead with making movies out of this series? Aughhh no no NO. This is the one series I wish they would leave alone. They're gonna Hollywood-ize it and make Katniss a ~beautiful flower and they're gonna cast Taylor Butterface Lautner for Gale and DO NOT WANT. I mean, if they do it right, yay! but more often than not adaptions are bastardized embarrassingly, so I would just rather not, thanks. (Though, okay, if they did, they should tooootally cast Jensen as Finnick 'cause he's pretty and has green eyes and is a lady's man and really good at playing a woobie. OKAY? OKAY.)
Went to the beach with my mom at sunset tonight. It's still muggy sticky 90+ degrees hot here and I am DYYYING for
The usual summertime thunderhead.
