Dec. 2nd, 2008 08:48 pmI love, looooove Christmas music, so I thought I'd share a handful of versions of my favorite Christmas song.
Angels of Venice - Carol of the Bells A beautiful, traditional, instrumental version.
The Bird and the Bee - Carol of the Bells - Ugh, I ADORE The Bird and the Bee; their music is quirky and upbeat and gorgeous. This cover is no exception. I almost flailed a little when I heard it played at Starbucks a few days ago.
The Calling - Carol of the Bells - A little too pop-y for my tastes, but still pretty nice.
Celtic Women - Carol of the Bells - Not my favorite, but I'm a sucker for a gorgeous violin, ngh!
Claymation Christmas Celebration - Carol of the Bells - Heeee, oh man, watching this Christmas special - recorded on video tape sometime before 1990, what we still watch it on - is something we do every year. I KNOW other people had to have heard of it or seen it, right? It's seriously amazing. I even dug it up on youtube! This cover is awesome and one of my absolute greatest Christmas memories from growing up.
John Williams - Carol of the Bells - The ultimate, most traditional version of this song. From Home Alone. Come on! You know you've seen that movie like, 2039843 times.
Mae - Carol of the Bells - This is one of my all-time favorite covers. Mae has such a lovely, unique sound (or, had... their newest CD, not so much :(), and this version is just so, so fantastic.
Mannheim Steamroller - Carol of the Bells Oh MAN. Mannheim Steamroller. My dad is a huge fan, so I kind of grew up on them. Analog synthesizers from the 80's! You know you love it. Think of it as the Depeche Mode of the Christmas music genre, ahaha. I have such intense memories of this playing from when I was a kid and yeah, I still just, love it.
Thrice - Carol of the Bells - Again, not my favorite (not being a big fan of Thrice has something to do with it, I think) but I figure someone might appreciate it!
ETA:
darth_snuggles threatened me if I didn't put this up too! Trans-Siberian Orchestra feat. Metallica - Carol of the Bells SO CHRISTMAS CAN ROCK YOUR FUCKING FACE OFF.
And there you have it! If anyone has any good Carol of the Bell covers they'd like to share, that would be aaaawesome, THANKS.
Oh, and HA, I have to upload this one too: Coldplay - A Ghost. A studio recording that's not very Christmas-y at first, but the end is just, augh, AUGH. I'm not gonna lie, this song makes me cry more often than not, especially now, not living at home anymore. But. It's beautiful.
Also, two years ago Damien Rice's 9 came out, which was my first Christmas at Starbucks, and it was one of the CDs featured during this time of year. That whole CD not only reminds me achingly of my old store and my old coworkers, but is also quite possibly one of the most beautiful, and one of my most top played CDs. "The Animals Were Gone," I mean. Just. Really.
So I pretty much sound and feel awful. My voice is almost completely gone (which made for an interesting 8 hour work day calling out drinks, let me tell you) and I've had coughing fits so hard I gagged and had tears running down my face. AWESOME, RIGHT. Fortunately I have tomorrow off, but I have to open again on Thursday. Hngg I really hope I feel better by then. :\
Dammit, all I wanna do is sit down with some Dark Angel fic, but all the good ones have been read. UGHH, WHY, WHY WITH THE SUCK. :(
