I love Michael's face.

Lit of the World since the Renaissance is going to be fun, even though I have to go over Mrs. Dalloway AGAIN, AAUUGHH, and "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and man, as much as I like Eliot, I'm kinda tired of that. Oh well. I'm with one of the same professors as last semester, so at least I know what I'm getting in to.
My Mythology professor is a quirky, grey-haired old guy; exactly the kind of person you'd expect to teach Mythology and Latin. I am excited about this class. I am not excited about the fact that I cannot seem to get away from freshmen. The stupidity burns, I'm not even kidding.
So, um, HEY GUYS. I'm kind of a genius. Let me explain.
This weekend, before I left to go out of town, I saw that a new chapter of a fic was up, but I didn't have any time to read it. I was all sadface until, driving down the road a bit later, I realized, dude, I should be able to put that as a text file on my iPod! There's a "Note" section that pretty much takes care of all text uploaded on to it, so why not use that? And oh yes, it has worked.
There's a pretty easy to follow manual on how to upload "ebooks" on to an iPod here, but I'll break it down for something more in our context.
1. Copy and paste the fic/chapter/whatever onto a Word document, and save it as a .txt file. (If you're using Microsoft Word, a box will pop up asking about the file conversion; I just hit "OK" because what I saw was just fine.)
2. Go here. Find your file and upload it and name it. I also checked the "Convert diacritical marks" box just in case. Hit "Upload and Convert."
3. Ta da! Your file is now iPod accessable. Click the URL to download the .zip file.
4. Remove the contents of the zipped file in a seperate location. Do NOT unzip the file directly on to your iPod, my first mistake. The iPod won't be able to disconnect properly because it'll freak out and say it's still connected to a file within the computer.
5. Connect your iPod to the cable, like you would any other time you would update it.
6. Find the file where you unzipped the text. Copy those files, and then under "My Computer" or wherever you can see your iPod connected as a drive, double click that.
7. Paste the files in the "Notes" folder.
And you're done! HOW AWESOME IS THAT. Now, I have a fourth generation iPod, so things might go a bit differently for other generations, maybe. I'm not sure. Also, I can't seem to get quotation marks to show up, which throws me off a little bit, but there are line breaks, so. It might have something to do with the actual text file itself, I'm not sure. I'll have to play around with it a little more.
AND THE BEST PART IS? You can still listen to music while reading the fic. Like I said, genius. GUESS WHAT I'M GOING TO BRING TO CLASSES.
I haven't had a chance to read
kroki_refur's "One Moment of Knowing That," so I went ahead and uploaded that, so here's the link! Just as a reference, this fic is about 7000 words, and the uploader automatically divided it into 10 seperate files. The files themselves are all really small anyway, so it shouldn't be that difficult to maybe even put a 10,000+ word fic on your iPod. Winnnn.
Pimp this out? Spread the word? MAYBE? I personally am ecstatic about this (take your porn with you on long trips and in between classes!), and I thought others might benefit from this as well, hee.
And now if I could just put down the DA fic. COME ON SARAH, PUT IT DOWN. I can't! Alec is too amazing! WAH.
