Please tell me it's okay to feel stupid in a class that's for your major. Please. Because right now, I just. *Hands* This isn't fun anymore.

The ever-growing amount of things for school, work, and just life in general... I need next Thursday to come so very very badly. I need something to look forward to throughout the week again.

I can't believe it's only Tuesday.

Boy am I feeling you. I'm a Social Science/Humanities major so I sit in all the "I read hard books for fun" kinds of classes and my Greek Lit class...oh boy. First essay, the class average was a 65. CLASS. I have the Nazi grader. It's horrible. I feel like I have the IQ of a potato.

Must have SPN!

It's perfectly okay to feel stupid in a class that is your major. As someone who did that many times in her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, and still feels stupid trying to decode academic-talk in her PhD work, I can vouch for this!

"I read the hard books for fun" ahaha YES. Sometimes I'm like, Good God, what am I DOING here?! Glad to know I'm not alone, though! :D

It's definitely ok...pretty much any time people start using techincal words to describe a piece of writing or literature I'm just sitting there trying to pretend that was exactly what I would have said. I don't understand how some people retain all the info they do...but whatever :-P

Gah, yeah, especially when I'm not, um, particularly keen on literary criticism, which isn't exactly the best thing when you're a lit major. I agree - I have NO idea how people come up the ideas about a piece of literature that they do... I just sit there and soak it up, heh.

Ugh, yes. It's totally fine. It's happening in my historical methods class allllll the time, which is awesome, because it's the senior capstone course so I can't graduate if I fail it. WOO!

Don't stress too much about it, though. You'll get through it. Just gotta grit your teeth, that's all.

Ack, historical methods sounds like a literary criticism class that I have to take, and I am SO not looking forward to it. :( Gritting teeth, AND biting the bullet, etc. College is hard omg. :((

DUDE. I would CRY if I was an engineering major, but maybe that's because I hate math so much, ahaha. I think you guys have all the right in the world to feel stupid. ;D

hahah, yeah, some days I do want to cry, but it's getting less and less. I can't tell if that's because I've made it past all the "weeding out" classes, or I actually know what's going on. difficult to tell, really.

Yes it is totally ok. That is the point of school, you know. TO LEARN! <3333 School is totally stressful and can make you feel stupid AND YOU TOTALLY AREN'T!! It is normal though. I took a psychology class, I don't remember what one I think it was cognitive psych and the first day I went, I was like......WTH??!?! I ended up having a douche bag for a teacher and dropped the class, heh, BUT I still didn't understand it at first and probably would have understood it if my prof hadn't been a complete dick. So moral of the story, is don't worry! Things will get better although YES can it be next thursday yet plz?!

Gaah, learning, I knoooww, but I want to be the one to raise my hand and come up with all the good niggling details in text, and make comparisions, and basically sound SMRT. Good thing I'm good at note taking, pfft.

I feel like I faked my way through my whole degree. That's supposed to be the point of college - to make you realize how much you have to learn. You will make it over the hump!

!!! THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL. LIKE. In my Lit classes! Everyone else will just have all these really fantastic insights to what we're supposed to have read for that day, and I'm just like, "...?! You came up with this where?!" And then I, you know, take copious and detailed notes; soak it in like a sponge.

to make you realize how much you have to learn.

So very true. The deeper I go into my Lit (and History) classes, the more I feel like I'm missing, because I haven't studied it from this angle, or added this perspective into the mix, or something. It's all very thrilling and confusing at the same time. :\

The thing about Lit classes is, some of those "fantastic insights" really are that, but a lot of others are people who've learned what professors like to hear, or are just talking out their ass to sound academic. I met so many people in my liberal arts classes who never realized how much they had to learn. If you miss that lesson, then college is just a big circle-jerk and a total waste of time. So you're already ahead. \o/

I did feel like I was close to the most inept student in a few classes I've taken. I ended up passing them all. If you need extra help, most profs are eager to explain it to you.

Very true; the professor for this class is super duper nice, hm. Maybe I'll give that a shot, if it becomes too much!
