May. 17th, 2007 12:39 amDrove down to St. Pete and met up with some friends to see Mae in concert for the... I dunno. I forget how many times I've seen them now. They were opening for Relient K, though, and we scooted out before they came on, heh.
I haven't seen my friends much lately which is heartbreaking and agonizing but I can't quite get myself to explain it just yet. I'm so glad I got to hang out with Catie and Haley though, because I've missed them so much. They both said screw 'em, the other friends, and I just, I don't know. I'm hurt, and lonely, but I really don't know if it's my own doing. My sister tells me no. My sister has become more and more theraputic, these days.
Anyway. I woke up with a sore throat and stuffy nose this morning, which, what the hell, it's summer, so I've been moaning and groaning about that all day, plus a migrain at the concert, which, I don't even know. I still really enjoyed it, though. Mae really knows how to put on a show.
I LOVED it. I really did. So new and fresh and I loved the concept. When I first started I was like, OH GREAT, more science fiction. But it's not at all! It's a romance novel, which, really, would bug the hell out of me since I can't stand Chick Lit/romance novels, but it was just SO GOOD. The struggle to overcome. Gotta love that, always.
The writing threw me off at the beginning, not only present tense, but first person present tense, and it switched perspectives throughout. But it worked really well, and I really really have to give kudos to Audrey Niffenegger, because that's hard to pull off. I loved that it was set in Chicago because they mentioned all the places I've gone! Watertower Place! Ed Debevics! The Boarders right on Michigan Ave! Love love love.
I loved how clever and snarky Henry was, and of course CLARE, yeah, she was pretty awesome. Apparently there is a movie being done? Of COURSE, right? Rachel McAdams, yes yes YES! Eric Bana, yeah, I don't know so much. Not how I pictured Henry at all. Hm.
The whole... amputated feet thing kind of threw me off too. It was just really sudden. I know, I know, supposed to be a sort of metaphor for Henry losing his freedom, because he loved to run so much because it kept him grounded, but... I don't know! It was just kind of... hm.
The ending omg. :(
Next up is Stardust and YAY GAIMAN. I'm very much looking forward to it.
These are not good for my HEALTH holy God. It's the scruff. HELP.

Date: 2007-05-17 01:34 pm (UTC)Eric Bana isn't gonna do it for me either. I've read fans of the book say they would rather see Ewan McGregor in the role SQUEEEEEEEEEE, I so wish. That would be TEH Bestest. But oh well.
Yay, it's like we watched a movie together, but um ... not. Hehe.

Date: 2007-05-17 07:25 pm (UTC)I'm just getting over it, but I'm still in that phase of sniffling and coughing obnoxiously.
If you need to talk to anyone about the friend stuff who is totally unconnected, I'm here for ya. It's never easy, but it's almost worse keeping it all bottled up and rolling around in your mind.
