Mar. 28th, 2012 10:20 pmMay I firstly just say that the Breaking Dawn trailer gave me so much secondhand embarrassment omg I cannnnnnot PLEASE GO AWAY.
But oh Hunger Games you were pretty freaking delightful. Not perfect, but very good. Jennifer Lawrence did such an awesome job (and I may be kind of in love with her just from seeing gifs of her interviews WHUPS), and I really didn't think I'd like the kid who played Peeta, but he pulled off the "innocent face" pretty well. Wish they had more snarky lines for him like they had in the book though.
The beginning was AMAZING and omg my stomach was in knots; it was exactly the kind of dramatic atmosphere I was hoping and praying they'd be able to convey in movie form. The Reaping was perfect, and I especially loved the moments of despair leading up to Katniss finally being raised on the platform for the Games; that final scene with Cinna! Omg! SO GOOD.
Haymitch was... okay. I love Woody Harrelson, but, agh, the character has so much more depth than what the movie script conveyed. He's not just a cranky drunk. But. Movie. Time restraints. I know.
I was also disappointed in the fact that the whole time Katniss was caring for Peeta in the cave, she said nothing about her affection being an act. She did tell him that, right? It's been so long since I've read the books. So you have her throwing Peeta against the wall and tell him he made her look weak earlier in the movie, and then BAM, suddenly she's ~totes in love~? C'mon Hollywood. Why. The only INKLING that the movie portrayed that it was mostly just an act was when they were on the train back to their district and Katniss said she wanted to forget everything. Aughhh. I hope it'll be more explained in Catching Fire that it was just for the audience. Is that mean of me? I mean, in the end I very content with the fact that it's her and Peeta, but it's just a) romance is so far from being the main point of the story and b) the book obviously gave far more insights into Katniss's head than a movie would, but I never wanted this to turn Hollywood and have the romance be on of the main plot points for the story.
I have a lot of feelings.
They skated over a lot of the emotional depth that I wanted to see/feel (minus the beginning), but that's more of a nit-picky thing for me, I guess. Most action movies just can't pull that off, nowadays.
RUE OH MY GOD RUUUUUE. That girl was the cutest freaking thing on the PLANET and I had totally forgotten about Katniss picking flowers for her when she laid her to rest ughgugaogwiaweja. WEEPING FOR DAYS.
And I can't stop listening to this:
Definitely time to reread the books.
