I got home from work last night, and my parents said they had some news. Apparently at the dealership where I had my car worked on yesterday, the owner just bought a car, not a few days ago, from some old lady who barely drove it at all, had yearly checkups and kept the car in pristine condition. The owner of the dealership wants to sell the car for $3500. $200 less than what we payed for my old car.
My parents told me they're contacting the guy today to buy it. I promptly burst into tears.
I just. I don't understand how unbelievably blessed and fortunate I've been in situations like this. I'm not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, believe me, but it's just. I don't deserve this. I don't deserve this at all. And somehow everything slides right into place despite that. I just bought a brand new laptop, for God's sake, with the help of my parents, and again, the car, with the help of my parents. I've told them over and over that I'd be more than willing to pay what's rightly due, but they said as long as I pay for gas, repairs, and monthly insurance, they'll take car of it. It just kills me.
So, yes, as it looks, I'll be getting a '97 Saturn that looks pretty much like this, (except in white) before the week is out. Now our dilemma is to either pay another $2000 to get my old car repaired and then sell it for a really good amount (because otherwise it's in fantastic shape) or just donate it, as we don't think it could get much without the repairs already done. I don't even know. My head is still spinning.
So, yes, despite all that, I kind of, um, bought a bunch of things today. WITH GIFTCARDS. Mostly. So there. I bought Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Hadden at Barnes and Noble, and because they didn't have them there (WTF) and because I had a $25 gift card, I bought Twilight and Stardust from Amazon.com. This is just a fraction of my summer reading list. WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW IT. I know you do. In order, because, um, I'm anal like that. I'm also in the middle of The Time Traveler's Wife right now.

EXCITING, I KNOW. Some rec'd from various places all over my flist. Others because I read Other Voices, Other Rooms by Capote for my Lit of the South class and loved it, LOVED Faulkner and his insanity, and Hugh Laurie wrote a book?!? so of course, I have to read it. Good stuff.
And, uh, I may have ordered the Origins comic online. I do not do comics. Really. BUT FOR YOU SPN I WILL DO... pretty much anything. No lie. *Excited!*
I do not think anyone understands how nervous/excited I am for tonight's episode. OR MAYBE YOU DO. Oh. Oh God.

I'm really, really impressed with the deal you're getting! A '97 Saturn should be good! Also, white cars = tweenz!
Depending on how many miles are on your old car and what year and model it is, you might not get much more than $2000 for it anywhere. I was looking for decent used cars, and my mom had me pass over the ones that had too many miles, even if they were in good condition. So I'm not sure about that dilemma. :/
But I hope everything continues to go great for you!

Yeeaaah, my car definitely has, um, about 107,000 on it. Contrary to what I originally thought, my parents don't think we'd be able to get much out of it, which really sort of depresses me, because I hate to see such a good car go to waste. Well. Not waste, but I put 20,000 miles on it and it was my first car, so. *Weepy*
