Of COURSE I'm excited that SPN got picked up for season five! I wasn't too worried, really, but it's nice to have that confirmation.
So know that we know for SURE we're getting the final season,
Unless Kripke completely and totally pulls the rug out from underneath us - really, I wouldn't be surprised, but it's highly unlikely - this season will totally end on a cliffhanger with Sam vs. Dean. Sam, whether he actually DOES go evil (ehh...) or does something that will be construed from Dean and the angel's perspective of being evil (way more likely), will cause them to go head to head in some way. I don't see how there's gonna be any way around this. They've been dropping anvils like crazy, the whole dichotamy with Sam and demons and Dean and angels, so I'm almost positive that's how the cliffhanger for the season is gonna be.
NEXT season, however, will open with them still head to head in some way, and then something happening that will reunite them and they'll both say, FUCK IT, and attempt to throw off all advice and directions - Dean from the angels, and Sam from the demons, obviously - and it will literally be them vs. the world. The apocalypse is still going down during this time, and they'll win, of course, BUT WILL THEY LIVE OR DIE? THAT, my friends, is the question.
My roommate's boyfriend has this whole theory about how they'll NEVER live a normal/happy life after everything that they've gone through and they only way out is through death. There's more than enough insinuations of this, especially from this season with "Criss Angel is a Douchebag" (heh) about not wanting to grow old, doing what they do for the rest of their lives. And in "Time is on My Side," last season, with Rufus (I think that was his name?), the old hunter, who was super paranoid and told Dean that this was no way to live.
BUT, I dunno! I can definitely picture a fade-to-black where the boys have defeated Lilith/Lucifer/the apocalypse, and they just... get in the car and drive down a dusty road. With Dean saying, "We've got work to do." Dude, you KNOW that could so happen. And they do what they do until they can't anymore. But Kripke is an awful heartless bastard, so, MAN. I dunno. Please note that I will be bawling my eyes out for days upon days with either scenario. Though probably more with the former. OH GOD.
SO. I have to ask.
