Depression. Wolves.

Yeah, angst.

At least, that's what my advisor told me today.

Seriously?! I mean, really?! I was shocked. I've heard so many other people that claimed to be both a literature major and a creative writing major, and I just, I don't know! But she said that a BA in English is a BA in English; I would need to declare to different department majors if I wanted two. Like History and English, or something. I mean... okay, yeah, I admit it, I'm a bigtime overachiever and I really wanted this. I don't know if this is just a USF thing, or what, because if it is, I'm going to be really pissed that I missed out on my opportunity elsewhere to get two majors.

So that kind of screwed everything up, as I thought I needed to take four more creative writing courses, etc. But, as it stands right now, if I understood everything correctly, I only need 21 more hours of Lit classes, 10 hours of a language course (UGHHH), 3 exit requirement courses (!!!), and, get this, 39 more hours outside of the English department. Holy moley. That's something I really don't want to do, but maybe I can find classes that can double as that and for my minor in History. I just have this horrible feeling that I'm going to screw this up righteously and not take the classes that I'm supposed to for graduation, thus not graduating on time, etc. But, I mean, really, who graduates on time, right? Ghhghasdjslafkj COLLEGE IS HARD.

Except, well, getting this email from my American Lit professor this evening KIND OF MAKES UP FOR IT:

Hello Sarah,

I would really like to use your midterm essay as an exemplary or near-perfect
student sample of this assignment for my future AML 3051 classes. I will remove your
name so that your essay remains anonymous. If this is OK with you, simply email me a
copy of your midterm essay in the form of a Word document attachment.

I do appreciate it. Your essay is remarkable for being well-written, articulate, and
engaging. Keep up the excellent work.

AHAHAH omg I am rather THRILLED. Especially when I thought I was just pulling stuff out of my ass. WIN.

Oh yes, AND, I wroted a 1900 word or so SPN piece here, mostly about the Metallicar, but I think the boys are in there a bit, OR SOMETHING.

Let me conclude this by saying DWIGHT, YOU IGNORANT SLUT. Ahaha I love it.

Sucks about the non-double major thing, grrrrr. Can you have a double minor?

Also, OMG WINNNN! Dude, your paper is part of an entire curriculum! How majorly cool is that! YOU are the good example!

Ahahahaha, if I was there he'd be like, "and Dorothy, can I use your paper as the "what not to write" example?" Heehee!

Totally not surprised on the request to be used as an example. You really are that good.

Oh and commented on the story. again... alalskfdlsajfdaj;fdjakl;fjda. Just, you know, in case I didn't say it enough the first time.

UF has outlawed double majors except in the big (read: profit-generating) sciences. So Matt can major in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, but I wasn't allowed to major in History and Classics. Bastardos! So take your double major and fly with it! Flyyyy! \o/

Also, congrats on the essay, because you roxors.

At UCF, you can take any of the other English BA tracks (Literature, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, and their internal specializations) as a minor, so you could graduate with an English Literature Major and a Creative Writing minor.
Which is unsatisfying, but at least it's something.

Your school is STRANGE. I'm graduating with just the one major, English, but with both options of creative writing and literature under that major. Plus the two minors, but that's beside the point. I can't believe you can't do literature and creative writing and have them count them both somehow. WEIRDOS. And seriously, none of the cool kids graduate on time, I mean, I took an extra year. :P

And HOW SMART ARE YOU?! *proud face*

wow.. that's crazy.

when you start working on that history minor thing... give me a call. still looking forward to having more classes with you, my dear...

nevertheless, was that Cavedo? king of the pleated khaki and sneaker look? good job!

Seems to me, though, that there isn't all that much you can *do* with a creative writing minor anyway, unless you wanted to teach it. If you want to write and to publish, then you just do it... publishers want a publishable book, and I don't think they really care whether you have a degree or major in it or not.

Kudos on having the exemplary essay! That's awesome!
